Definitly the Chicago & North Western 4-6-2 Pacific #578 seen parked in the Crystal Lake yad is showing its age of 43 years now. Built by Alco-Schenectady in April of 1912, it served the CNW well. In 1952 it had its number changed to CNW 578. No record of its actual dispositon date was found. Specs - class E, 75" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt of 251,500 lb, tractive effort of 36,700 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
