Big Boy 4010
Union Pacific 4010 rests in the yard at Laramie. The 1941-built unit was one of 20 such engines built in the 4884-1 series, numbered 4000-4019. These units differed slightly from the 4884-2 series of five engines (4020-4024) built in 1944 to fulfill wartime traffic demands. Both series of locomotives would meet their retirement in 1959, when UP would discontinue steam operations on the Wyoming Divison. 8 of the 25 would be preserved, although 4010 would not be so lucky. She would be cut up in Geneva, Utah, on May 24, 1963, one of the last Big Boys to be scrapped. Obtained from Union Pacific Steam: Big Boy Portraits (Bush, Ehernberger)
