PRR 3880, K-4S, 1957
Coal Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Homer G. Benton that was taken in Belmar, New Jersey, in April of 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3880, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during July of 1923 and retired in August of 1957 after 34 years of faithful service. In this context, it's pulling a morning commuter train to South Amboy. There, #3880 will uncouple and be replaced by a GG-1 which will pull the train to Newark and New York City.
