FIRST H.E.P. PANAMA LIMITED
The brutally-cold weather in January 1977 took a significant portion of Amtrak's steam-heated equipment out of service with freeze damage, and the carrier responded by cancelling several long-distance trains including the PANAMA LIMITED. After an absence of about two weeks the PANAMA was reinstated as an all-coach Amfleet train, and here is the first example backing into New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The railroad was finally able to add a PACIFIC-series 10-6 sleeper at the end of the year, restoring First Class service to the train.
