CIM 2-10-2 #701 - Chicago & Illinois Midland  Contributor's Pick!
Here was a solid example of the "power at speed" Lima Locomotive Works motto. Built by Lima in 1931, this Santa Fe type loco was an H-1 class, one of only 4 built for the CIM. It had 63" drivers, developed 200 psi boiler pressure for its 30"x32" cylinders. THe engine weighed in at a hefty 405,600 lb, heavier than its counterpart built by Baldwin, and could generated a massive tractive effort of 77,714 lbs. It and its sisters worked until the end of the steam era and all were scrapped in 1955. Date is approximate and unfortunately no photographer was listed.
