City of New Orleans Editors Pick!
Train #2, the northbound City of New Orleans passes by Raines, about 8 miles south of Memphis Central Station. Today, Raines has been absorbed by Memphis and is not actually a town. The crossing in the background is Raines Road, which today is 5 lanes. The siding and the house are long gone. From the collection of Fred Goff.

C.S. Jackson General I used to live around that area when I was a kid. Just a year after I moved from there, they had the siding removed around 1994. By that time, I could still see the C of NO roll by what is now Snappy Sacker Grocery. I was with my stepfather at that time. He had died on my birthday two years ago. 12/13/2012 2:02:08 PM
Joe Marascalco General Thanks for that info. I was curious as to when they pulled that siding up. Did you ever see them storing cars there? 12/13/2012 3:03:11 PM
C.S. Jackson General I hadn't seen them store any freightcars there. When I went back there a year ago, there wasn't much left from childhood. That driveway seen at the right of ther tracks is the McCorkle Mansion. It burned down a couple of years ago. 1/3/2013 4:34:59 PM
